What is Mesotherapy?
The majority of women are likely to experience cellulite at some point in their lives. Usually found on the thighs and bottom, cellulite can easily be identified by its lumpy, dimpled, appearance, a bit like that of orange peel. Knowing that 95% of women suffer from cellulite is little consolation to those who can no longer feel comfortable wearing shorts, miniskirts or swimwear in public.
What is cellulite?
You may well have stumbled across this blog because you’re looking for a way to get rid of that orange peel affect on your thighs, but do you actually know why it is there in the first place? Cellulite is a combination of fatty tissue and fluid retention caused by a variety of things including changes in metabolism, dieting too much, hormonal factors and genetic factors among others.
What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a medical technique that was originally devised in 1958 by Dr Michael Pistor to treat conditions such as rheumatology, vascular diseases, sports injuries and to improve circulation. However it was soon discovered that Mesotherapy was also effective in treating aesthetical conditions like cellulite too. “Meso” refers to the mesoderm, the middle layer of the skin, which is where the Mesotherapy is focused.
How does Mesotherapy work?
Mesotherapy works by stimulating the mesoderm via the injection of small amounts of natural, homeopathic agents and vitamins into the skin. The aim is to break down the cellulite, improve circulation and improve lymphatic and venous drainage. Vitamin C is injected into the skin to encourage the tone of the overlying skin and give it a more taut appearance.
Mesotherapy treatment is quick and relatively pain-free, so patients can carry on with their daily activities straight afterwards. Most people will require two injections per week over a course of around 4 to 8 weeks. Once the course of treatment is complete the patient will see noticeable, measurable results that are very long-lasting and requires little maintenance.
The Mesotherapy treatment is a great alternative to liposuction as it’s much less invasive, the healing time is a lot lower and the results are just as good, if not better! It may take a little longer, but non-invasive treatments tend to carry far less risk, which is why more and more people are choosing Mesotherapy over liposuction these days.
